After reattaching the power supply and starting the console back up it again went right to the update screen, but it completed successfully. So I did the same as before (Unplug the console, open the case and disconnect the power supply for 10 minutes or so). I downloaded the latest firmware to a USB drive and loaded the update file from USB, but that also got stuck in an update loop (The update would stop around ~60% and fail with the 8002F1F9 hardware error code). However, with 4.6 I still couldn't connect it to the internet, so I had to try to initiate another update to take it to the latest version (4.8). So at this point the console had upgraded to firmware 4.6. After reattaching the power supply and plugging the console back in, the initial boot went back into the upgrade process but this time it didn't fail. (I also tried to blow out any dust with compressed air but that didn't seem to help the WiFi/Bluetooth module as the controller still needed to be connected via USB to function). To get the console out of the upgrade loop I had to unplug the power, open up the case and disconnect the power supply. NOTE: I have also seen people on ebay selling already modded PS3 and that might be an option for you if you don't have the time or don't feel comfortable doing it (but as you would expect probably gonna cost a bit more)Īnd in case you haven't come across it here's Denny Fisher list of Overseas titles that are compatible with region B:

Youtube - How To JAILBREAK Any PS3 Model In 10 Mins! 4.86 (Ps3 slim,Super Slim,FAT) in 2020 I'm pretty sure this is the guide I used for modding my PS3 to CFW: I'm sure you've worked this out but I think the reason most people go with a PS3 is cause you can grab a 2nd hand one pretty cheap and with it being your likley your first time modding a playstation it's less daunting if you do things wrong. And the way it works does take a bit of getting used. DVD's region changing I have just never managed to get to work, and I'm pretty sure is a know problem. PS3 works reasonable well, requires manaually changing the region rather than just being region free. And I'm pretty sure this is down to the default selecting the correct region for you via "settings > DVD Blu-ray > Forced BD player region = Auto" PC works fine and going MakeMKV works fine, or straight from disc playing with Leawo Blu ray player, by default seems to play alot of Region A blu rays and B without change.
